Dear Parents and Players old and new,

Welcome to the 2010-11 season, which we hope will be a positive, successful and enjoyable one for all those involved in the Club.

This newsletter is one of a series which will keep you up to date with all the news and events at Upton Junior Football Club.

Firstly, a word about finances. We are a not-for-profit club, but we do try to break even each year and plough as much money back into the club as we can. Our outgoings are significant, and include pitch hire (Lime Wood, Rugby Club, Dale Camp and others), midweek winter training venues, kits and equipment, match fees, referees fees etc. These costs are only partially met by player subscriptions and so each year we have to consider new and creative ways of fund raising to match our costs.

There are popular events which take place each season, including bag-packing at Morrisons and the team penalty shoot out competition, but organising and managing these events tends to fall to team Managers who already have a busy role fulfilling their obligations to their teams. Even club social events take a lot of time and effort to organise, and all the Managers are volunteers who give up their spare time free of charge, so this extra responsibility can be a bit much !

We would like therefore to re-instate our Events Management Team (now sadly defunct) which would comprise a team of people who can come up with new funding and social event ideas and turn them into reality. In this way we can share the activity a bit more equally – I am sure there are lots of you out there who would love to help the club, and this is a perfect way to get involved. We are also looking for one person to head up the whole team to co-ordinate activities and report back to the committee – could this be you ?!
